Threads of Change – Local Engagement

In this student-led workshop, partly organized by members of the Student Council of Environmental and Geosciences at Stockholm University, researchers and students from Karolinska Institutet, KTH and Stockholm University explore the role of community-driven initiatives in broader societal transitions.

Date: 21 April 2026
Time: 16:00–20:00
Place: Stockholm University, Svante Arrhenius väg 8 Geovetenskapens hus, room: Degeersalen

How can local engagement contribute to addressing global challenges? This session approaches global challenges from the grassroots level, focusing on how local involvement can remain meaningful even when the challenges themselves are structural and far-reaching.

Together, researchers, civil society representatives and students will explore how community-driven initiatives, civic engagement and everyday choices can contribute to broader societal shifts, without assuming that local efforts alone can resolve global challenges.

The session aims to support participants in staying engaged rather than desensitised, while highlighting how collective, locally grounded action can foster agency, resilience and momentum within wider systems of governance.

Who is the event for?

Students at Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Stockholm University.
